Lutsen Mountains

Although the unseasonably warm weather that we have been experiencing in the Midwest makes winter feel like months away, Lutsen Mountains has been busy creating a pocket of winter wonderland on the North Shore. Currently, there are 2 mountains, 3 lifts and 7 ski runs open for beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers.

Snow Forecast and Updates:

Epic snowfall is being predicted (wahoo!) for the North Shore in the coming weeks thanks to the El Nino moisture patterns. Based on the weather forecast, snow will be made 24/7 beginning Monday, December 21. After a recent investment of over $3 million in snow machines and infrastructure, Lutsen Mountain’s has the most powerful snowmaking system in the Midwest. With 75 snowguns that have a capacity to pump 6,000 gallons per minute (whoa!), the ski hill can produce 2.3 million cubic feet of snow per day. It is projected that 3 mountains, 5 lifts and 20 runs will be open by December 19 and that 4 mountains, 7 lifts and 30-35 runs will be open by December 26.

Other Exciting news at Lutsen Mountains:

Lutsen Mountains is hosting a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony this Friday, December 18, for the new $7 million Doppelmayr gondola that was installed this past summer and fall. The high-speed gondola is part of a 10-year, $25 million dollar investment that has turned Lutsen Mountains into a state-of-the-art destination ski resort.
