Lutsen Minnesota Outdoor Activities

If you like the outdoors, the North Shore is perfect for you! Hiking, canoeing, camping, skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, fishing… the list goes on. The Boundary Waters are synonymous with the outdoor adventure lover. Why not pack up the kids for a week of canoeing in the summer or a weekend escape with your sweetie for a day of hiking and then a glass of wine under the northern lights?

There is a certain simplicity of the North Shore that city slickers seem to forget, something about picking your own strawberries, seeing a wild moose or just feeling that pesticide free grass between your toes is what makes the Boundary Waters the undiscovered gem of the Midwest.

The Superior Hiking Trail is a 205 mile trail that if you follow far enough will bring you to the Canadian border. Hike along the rocky parameter of Lake Superior for some of the most beautiful views east of the Mississippi. If multi day hikes are not something you are interested in, try some of the lookout trails that are between five and ten miles and are perfect for day hikes.

If the idea of a multi day hike does interest you, but the idea of strapping your belongings to your back does not, be sure to ask Cascade Vacation Rentals about a lodge to lodge multi day hike.

The biggest attraction however, is the winters at Lutsen Mountain, the number one place in Minnesota for winter fun. Whether you are a beginner skier or an expert snowboarder, there are runs for all experience levels. If you’re not interested in skiing, snowboarding or snowshoeing, then why not try your hand at ice fishing on Lake Superior? Ice fishing can be very thereputic as well as exciting. If the cold weather doesn’t interest you at all, why not come up and check out some of Lutsen’s Fine Dining or some of our Cultural events?
