Ice Storm

We are back at the office today after a horrible ice storm.  I have only seen something like that on tv.  Everything had an ice coating on it.  If you went outside you could hear the braches of the trees colliding or even falling to the ground because it was just too heavy for them.  Most of it melted last night with the rain.  The roads are not icy any more and people seem to be out and about.  Here is a picture from my backyard in Lutsen.-Kris

Why Not Try a Sleigh Ride?

Saturday afternoon the Surbaugh family joined the Blomberg family for a horse drawn sleigh ride led my Marco Good of Beautyway Horselogging http://www.beautywayhorselogging.com/ .  The sleigh rides leave from Cascade Lodge and are sponsored by the Lutsen Tofte Tourism Association and the Cook County Events and Visitors Bureau.  Jack and Julie the horses pulled us through the beautiful rolling cedar forest that adjoins Cascade River State park.  We saw probably 20 deer during the trip and were within view of Lake Superior much of the time as well.  One of the best things about a sleigh ride is the sounds of the harness jingling, the horses working hard, and the snow beneath the runners.  The trip finished up with hot chocolate by lovely campfire.  Reservations for these trips can be made by calling (218) 663-7804.  The excursions are free on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for guests of area lodging and also offered Saturdays for a fee.  -Steve
