Last weekend I took Will (9) on his first winter camping trip up the Granite River (north of Gunflint Lake).  The weather was perfect.  Bright sun and temps in the middle 20’s at night and lower 30’s during the day made the indtroduction to winter camping a slam dunk.   The entire trip was within the burned zone and it was very interesting to see how things were coming back from the Ham Lake fire.   The peak experience of the trip was when two Trumpeter swans flew 10 feet over my head.  Later we found them in a thawed out area of the river and were able to observe them and listen to their trumpeting.  -Steve
